Winds of Winter release date ODDS: Game of Thrones novel most likely to arrive when?

It’s been eight years since the last book in A Song of Ice and Fire was released. And now that Game of Thrones has finished, George RR Martin still has two novels to go in The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring. Now Coral has shared odds of the year that The Winds of Winter will be released. And while 2019 isn’t out of the question, the bookmakers reckon 2020 is most likely.

This year has odds of 2-1, but 2020 has a very good chance on 1-3.

Meanwhile, 2021 or later is still a strong possibility on 4-1.

A Coral spokesman said: “We’ve been waiting for an awfully long time but there’s a strong feeling that 2020 will finally be the year and we make that odds in the market for the year that Winter of Winter will be released.”

In fact, Martin has revealed his own deadline, which he hopes to meet is summer 2020.

Writing on his blog in May about visiting New Zealand’s World Science Fiction Convention, the author made a shocking revelation.

Martin wrote: “But I tell you this — if I don’t have THE WINDS OF WINTER in hand when I arrive in New Zealand for worldcon, you have here my formal written permission to imprison me in a small cabin on White Island, overlooking that lake of sulfuric acid, until I’m done.

“Just so long as the acrid fumes do not screw up my old DOS word processor, I’ll be fine.”

So just when exactly does the convention take place?

According to the event website: “The convention will be called CoNZealand. The dates will be July 29 to August 2. George R.R. Martin has been announced as the Master of Ceremonies.”

This means Winds of Winter will (hopefully) be available by late July next year.

But if that’s the absolute personal deadline for Martin, it could even arrive earlier than then.

For now, Game of Thrones fans had better keep their fingers crossed.
