Bradley Walsh, 58, was joined by four famous faces on the fifth celebrity edition of The Chase this afternoon, who were all hoping to get their hands on some cash to donate to their chosen charity.
Amongst the line-up on the all star special of the ITV quiz show were actors Patrick Baladi, 47, and Kevin Eldon, 59, as well as Olympic cyclist Victoria Williamson, 25, and legendary presenter John Craven, 78.
However, it was during the latter’s round against the chaser Mark Labbett, 53, that the host become overly excited about knowing the answer to a question.
Threatening to reveal the answer before Bradley had the chance to tell John, the host turned to the contestant panel and tried his best to ensure they remained silent.
As the question appeared on the screen, it was clear Bradley knew the answer to the question before he revealed the choice of answers John and Mark had to decide from.
The question posed to the pair was: “What Barry Manilow song was inspired by a Chopin prelude?” with the answers to choose from bing; A. Mandy, B. Could It Be Magic?, or C. Copacabana.
After John and Mark locked in their answers, Bradley was seen running over to the contestant’s table, exclaiming: “I know this!”
Crossing his fingers and with his voice higher than normal, Bradley said: “I hope he…” before turning to John’s fellow contestants, telling them to not to reveal the answer as they tried to spill the information before the host had a chance to see if his suspicions were correct.
“Shh, shh,” Bradley exclaimed, before Peter revealed his answer was a pure guess, to which the host replied: “Is it a guess?”
Repeating his earlier statement, John left Bradley speechless as he tried to get his head round the legendary presenter not knowing the answer.
“This is the only one I’ve known,” Bradley remarked, before revealing what answer John had locked down, with the host not giving anything away as the correct answer of Could It Be Magic was highlighted.
After the host tried to throw John off the scent by teasing him answer A. Mandy could be the correct one, Bradley was ecstatic when John’s answer glowed green to show he was right.
John defied the odds in beating the chaser, following his decision to take the higher offer of £70,000, despite only accumulating £3,000 during his cash builder round.
The team had already managed to accumulate a substantial sum of money before John added his contribution to the jackpot prize.
Actor Patrick was the first to face the Beast, accumulating £6,000 during his cash builder round and he managed to get the ball rolling by out running the chaser.
Following Patrick’s success, Victoria was next to the stand and managed to add another £4,000 to the jackpot prize, brining the total to £10,000 before John picked up a windfall.
With their jackpot looking pretty substantial, actor Kevin decided to take the chaser’s lower offer of £1,000 to ensue his place in the final chase, despite accumulating £7,000 during his cash builder round.
As all four celebrities had made it back to the player’s table for the final chase, it looked like the all stars may have been able to outrun the Beast.
However, their efforts were in vain as the chaser managed to defeat the celebrities with more than enough time to spare.
On yesterday’s instalment of the quiz show, The Vixen star Jenny Ryan, 37, was left stunned when contestant David Grant, 62, had to explain the specifics of a Margherita pizza to Bradley.
After a week of celebrity specials, The Chase will return with brand new episodes on Monday, which came as welcome news to fans of the quiz show.
The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV.
