The Big Bang Theory jettisoned a number of the show’s actors into stardom, including one of the protagonists’ actors, Jim Parsons.
Jim charmed families all over the world with his rendition of Sheldon Cooper – an eccentric theoretical physicist who frequently gets on the nerves of his friends.
And over the twelve seasons, fans of the show have seen Sheldon grow and change in enormous ways, including starting a relationship, and getting married.
But Jim himself was one of the main reasons the show is coming to an end.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter Jim explained: “It was the first time in my life of doing this show that it occurred to me that I might want to not do another contract after [season] 12 was up.
“I don’t know if it’s because I’m an Aries or just because maybe I’m in touch with myself.
“Whatever it is, once I had that thought, I was like, ‘Well, that’s your answer.’”
Jim went on to say there was “no situation” where he realised he had had enough of the show.
He went on to add: “There was nothing like that. It was just… when you know, you know.”
It seems like once Jim had bowed out of the show, the rest of the show was bound to crumble around him.
And showrunner Chuck Lorre basically confirmed this, as he also told the publication: “I couldn’t wrap my head around the idea of going on without the whole ensemble.
“And the whole ensemble is why we succeeded.”
The end of the show is not welcomed by every member of the cast, however, as revealed by Penny star Kaley Cuoco.
Speaking on a video featured on CBS’s Twitter account, Kaley admitted: “I’m going to miss everything, I miss this crew. I love seeing these people every day.
“We know so much about each other at this point.”
Raj star Kunal Nayyar agreed, saying: “[I’m going to miss] the banter, the very hanging out with people you love, the family aspect of it.”
Howard Wolowitz star Simon Helberg also chimed in to give his opinion on leaving the show.
He would miss “having somewhere exciting to go, and getting to be surprised every week by the stories”.
Dedicated viewers of the show will no doubt be missing the characters as well.
Big Bang Theory season finale airs Thursday on CBS and in the UK on E4.
