Pointless hosts Richard Osman and Alexander Armstrong often get themselves into lengthy debates and today was no different.
They met Andy, who works on developing metallics for aircraft, and were quick to grill him about his job.
Andy said in response to being asked who he was: “I’m an aircraft engineer and a Manchester City supporter.”
Taken aback, Alexander said: “Which bit of the aircraft do your design?”
Andy explained he just worked on the metallic structures, to which the host continued: “Hang on, most of it is metallic isn’t it?”
The player revealed: “Not these days, a lot of composites now.”
Alexander could barely believe what he was hearing and he questioned whether that was really the case.
At this point, Richard chipped in, joking: “Yeah mate, so many composites.”
Richard continued: “Do you really think that most of an aircraft is metallic?”
Alexander giggled as he admitted he had been taken by surprise.
Richard got the final dig in, joking: “Your knowledge of composites in the aero space industry is sorely lacking.”
Sadly, Andy was knocked out of today’s Pointless episode when he failed to make it past the second round.
Yesterday, Richard Osman was called out when viewers spotted a major question blunder.
In the second round, Alexander introduced the topic: “History: People, Places and Events from Ancient History.”
One of the options was: “Caledonia was the name given by the Romans to the area that roughly corresponds to this large region of modern-day Britain.”
Contestant, Georgy correctly answered “Scotland”, but viewers weren’t happy at the country being called a region instead.
One said: “BBC at it again with Scotland being a region #pointless.”
A second added: “Back to being a region #pointless #scotlandisnotaregion.”
A third raged: “@richardosman Scotland is not a LARGE REGION of the U.K! It is one of the four constituent countries of the U.K. #Pointless.”
Pointless airs weeknights on BBC One at 5.15pm.
