THE petrol crisis has been exacerbated by people putting the wrong type of fuel in their cars.
According to the AA, there were 250 incidents of “misfuelling” over the weekend, compared with an average of 20-25 on an average day.
This has caused the already crowded petrol forecourts to become even more so as drivers are advised not to turn their cars on when they realise their mistake.
“Misfuelling” can cause large amounts of smoke to come out of the exhaust, and the engine to misfire and cut out.
Using petrol in a diesel car is the more serious mistake.
