AS an all-American actress who didn’t live in the UK before her engagement to Prince Harry, there have been fears Meghan Markle is lacking close friends here.
But I’m pleased to learn she has found a British BFF in well-connected social activist Saffron Aldridge.
Saffron is married to British hedge fund financier Ian Wace, and the pair attended Cirque du Soleil at the Royal Albert Hall with the couple in January.
What’s more interesting is that Meghan has been using her newfound bond with Saffron to help get her head around the British aristocracy and how to handle things.
I’m told Meghan loves Saffron because she is a straight talker, who is prepared to give her an honest opinion.
On the lighter side of life, they also share an interest in fashion, which Saffron has been advising Meghan on.
Saffron has showbiz connections as a former Ralph Lauren model and the half-sister of Victoria’s Secret Angel Lily Aldridge, wife of Kings of Leon rocker Caleb Followill.
But she is also well-known in royal circles.
She had her eldest son Milo in 1993 while in a relationship with Simon Astaire, who is the spokesman for Prince and Princess Michael of Kent – the latter being the Queen’s first cousin.
After quitting the catwalk, she immersed herself in children’s charities and helped raise thousands for the NSPCC thanks to projects backed by A-listers including Gwyneth Paltrow, Bryan Adams and Sting.
She maintained a link with the royals by entertaining Kate Middleton and Prince William during their first social outing as a married couple in 2011, at her husband Ian’s charity fundraising gala at Kensington Palace.
Wills was a guest speaker at the event where Saffron introduced Kate to some of the country’s wealthiest philanthropists.

Last year Saffron attended the Prince’s Trust’s Women Supporting Women initiative alongside chef Melissa Hemsley and I’m A Celebrity winner Georgia Toffolo.
Those invites will start rolling in now she is one of Meghan’s closest friends in the UK.
