ITV soap is seeing the comeback of one its most Machiavellian characters as Kim Tate (played by Claire King) made her presence known in the village. The Emmerdale character has been off screens for quite a while but is now back to cause more trouble. Here’s everything you need to know about Kim Tate and actress King, who plays her.
Who plays Kim Tate in Emmerdale?
Kim from Emmerdale is played by actress Claire King, who first arrived on the soap as the character back in 1989.
She initially starred in the soap for 10 years until 1999 when she left the village.
King is 57-years-old and was born on January 10, 1962.
The actress went on to star in a number of projects including Bad Girls, In The City and The Gemma Factor.
She also starred in soaps Hollyoaks and Coronation Street along with medical series Casualty.
During her initial time on Emmerdale, she had a number of explosive storylines including a major feud with her stepson Chris Tate (Peter Antony).
The character even faked her own death in a bid to take revenge on her husband Frank Tate (Norman Bowler), who ended up kicking the bucket after he had a heart attack when she turned up very much alive.
Kim eventually escaped from the village in a helicopter after stealing thousands of pounds from her husband and fled in a helicopter.
She initially evaded the authorities but was later caught by the police and locked up for her crimes.
Kim had a short stint in the Dales last year which ended abruptly and saw her pushed off a balcony by Faith Dingle (Sally Dexter) before the villain was sent back to jail.
Fans could see Kim taking revenge on Faith for trying to take her down as well as avenging the death of Joe Tate (Ned Porteous).
However, has been released and will be back in Emmerdale for the foreseeable future.
Speaking about her character’s return to the soap, King teased: “Coming back to Emmerdale was very daunting but the best decision I’ve ever made.”
She went on to tell The Sun: “It’s so much fun playing a soap super bitch as you can get away with saying things you’d get a deserved slap for in real life!
“I don’t think she could be any bitchier – she just sees her goal and aims for it no matter who’s in the way.”
Reflecting on her return after nearly two decades, she explained: “People have been coming up to me saying how they are really looking forward to seeing Kim back to wreak havoc in the village, which is fabulous.
“I think they are the ones who remember her first time around so it’s great they are still watching and wanting her back. Anyone under 25 won’t have a clue!”
Emmerdale will be airing on ITV tonight at 7pm
