ITV soap star Kym Marsh confirmed recently she would be bowing out of Coronation Street after 13 years. Fans have been speculating about her exit storyline and wondering how it will all play out. Marsh has been a familiar face on our screens since she burst onto the scene back in 2006, so her exit is expected to be explosive.
Is Michelle Connor pregnant in Coronation Street?
WARNING: This story contains spoilers from Coronation Street
The short answer is no – but Michelle doesn’t know that at this stage.
In scenes to air next week, the Coronation Street favourite believes she is pregnant with her boyfriend Robert Preston’s (Tristan Gemmill) child.
However, she will be hit in the stomach by a football as she stands outside the Underworld Factory having a chat with Carla Connor (Alison King).
Michelle seeks medical help and quickly discovers she’s not pregnant after all, leaving her with feelings of relief.
WHO WILL DIE IN THE UNDERWORLD FACTORY COLLAPSE?
The revelation makes Michelle really question her relationship with Robert and her life in Weatherfield.
This false pregnancy will also signal the beginning of the end for Michelle and Robert and potentially Marsh’s exit.
Michelle has had quite a traumatic time on the soap after her son Ruairi with ex-husband Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) was stillborn, leaving her heartbroken.
The storyline may have been a couple of years ago but Michelle is still deeply affected by the loss of her child.
WHO CAUSED THE UNDERWORLD FACTORY COLLAPSE?
Speaking about the storyline, Marsh said: “Had Michelle been pregnant and everything had been okay, she would have gone through with her pregnancy, but she would have been so terrified about losing another child.
“It would have been constantly on her mind so that’s why, in her head, the fact that she is not pregnant has given her a ‘get out of jail free’ card.”
The actress went on to say: “She now knows she doesn’t ever want to go back to that place. She has made up her mind and she has the choice to say no.
“Michelle has wanted to be with Robert and they have been through a lot together. We have seen the pair of them fight about not having children and Michelle coming round to the idea, because she does really love Robert.”
“She wants him to be happy and she wants to be with him, but when she makes the decision that she doesn’t want to have kids, in her head, she is thinking that this is the end of the road for them.
WHEN WILL THE UNDERWORLD FACTORY COLLAPSE AIR?
“Michelle thinks, why should she have what she wants when he can’t have what he wants? They are at such different places in their lives that she doesn’t want Robert to resent her.”
Marsh added: “It’s either he backs down or they break up, and she would rather they break up than take away his opportunity of having children of his own.”
Reflecting on her decision to leave the soap, actress Marsh told The Sun: “When I was lucky enough to be offered four episodes I could never in my wildest dreams have thought I’d be here 13 years later.
“It’s been an incredibly difficult decision but it feels like the right time for me to explore some other roles.”
Just when Michele will be bowing out of Coronation Street is yet to be seen apart from the fact it will happen at some point this year.
Coronation Street airs on ITV tonight at 7.30pm
