It came after Betsy the cat was murdered by Rose in the first episode.

Viewers were left horrified when it appeared Ben harmed the Labrador

One fan called it: “Why would you do that to the dog? F***ing monster. #Cheat

Many fans said the scenes depicting violence towards the animals were “pointless” and had “ruined” the series for them.

As the episode drew to a close, William – who Rose had grown up believing to be her dad – could be seen walking his beloved dog through the woods.

Rose’s voice reads out the letter she’s sent to Leah, which says: “I realised the only way I can forgive mum is go back to the start and sort things with William. So that’s what I did. I think I’ve started to feel better already. Love Rose.”

The scene cuts to Ben, Rose’s sinister friend, holding a knife and viewers feared the poor dog had been killed after hearing it yelp.

Creepy Ben continued to watch as William came towards him as the screen cut to black without revealed whether the dog or William had been killed.

One wrote: “Did Ben just kill the dog??? What is wrong with these people ! First Betsy now the dog ?”

“Please tell me I didn’t watch that every night for a dog to be killed,” added another.
