It is an absolutely epic line-up across three days. Tonight Bob Dylan and Neil Young play at Hyde Park, although not as part of British Summer Time. Saturday is headlined by Florence + the Machine, with Robbie Williams and Black Eyed Peas blasting off on Sunday. Around 65,000 people will be there each day and there is nothing worse than losing your mates. Everybody relies on their phones these days to do everything, including find a friend, but there are some major issues at Hyde Park.
Most people expect patchy phone reception at festivals. But this is in right in the heart of Central London so it should be fine? Right?
DO MOBILE PHONES WORK IN HYDE PARK?
Usually, obviously, there is no problem. But Express Online was there all three days over last weekend and experienced major issues. With thousands of people jamming the lines, five out of every six calls went straight to voice mail.
Even when calls went through, the sound quality was bad, and not because it was so noisy everywhere. More than one successful call had to be abandoned because one or both people couldn’t hear anything coming from the actual handset.

DOES INTERNET WORK IN HYDE PARK?
Again, usually yes. During the concerts, there was virtually no connection. All the major apps for messaging did not send and all the major social media platforms, – including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram – timed out without posting anything.
DO ANY OF THE NETWORKS HAVE BETTER CONNECTION?
In our experience no, but get in touch if your provider delivered a solid and reliable service during the concerts.
NEXT: TOP TIPS TO BEAT THE MOBILE PHONE BLACKOUT
WHAT CAN YOU DO? There are two simple things.
Firstly make a very clear plan where and when to meet with friends. Set a fixed time and agree on how long you will wait in case someone is held up. Check the map of the event and the stage performance times so you are clear on the location and so you don’t miss anything or get held up watching. SATURDAY AND SUNDAY STAGE TIMES HERE.
Secondly, remember there is NO RE-ENTRY. Make all your calls, texts, social media posts before you go in. Service is remarkably normal just outside the boundaries of the park.
