Ben Stokes: ‘I’m hard work’ England cricket star reveals surprising insight into marriage
Ben Stokes, 28, put on an impressive display at the Cricket World Cup final, after he and Jos Buttler, 28, set opposing team New Zealand a target of 16 from six balls to emerge victorious. Fans flocked to Twitter to call for the sports star to be rewarded with a knighthood due to his heroic actions for England during the game. However, Ben previously made a surprising admission about how he can be “hard work” at home, as the cricketer opened up about his relationship with his wife Clare Ratcliffe. During an interview with Red Bull, the England international player was quizzed about whether his touring commitments can take away the opportunity for quality time with his family.
The father-of-two explained: “For long tours, the ECB are very good at giving us slots for the families to come out and visit.”
He continued: “It does get tough but I’ve been used to being away by myself since I was young, with my Mum and Dad living in Cumbria and me being in Durham in the summer playing cricket.
“And then they moved back to New Zealand three years ago. The longest I’ve spent away from the kids was six weeks, which isn’t that bad for someone who’s used to being away.”
The sportsman then took the opportunity to joke about his other half “preferring it” when he is away from home.
He cheekily quipped in response: “Yep, she does. She says I’m hard work when I’m back home!”
Ben recently shared an adorable photo with his children Layton and Libby Stokes on Instagram with his 698,000 followers.
The star was pictured cuddling his daughter as his son sweetly planted a kiss on his cheek.
He captioned the image: “These 2,” alongside four heart-eyed emojis.
Fans took to the comments section of the post to share their thoughts on the heartwarming family moment.
One wrote: “May these two sweeties continue to inspire you.”
Another added: “The best photo in the world! Great dad – true champion with his amazing kids! @stokesy god bless you and @clarey11.”
A third responded: “Well played Stokesy.”(sic)
A fourth agreed: “Great photo you’re smashing it with the bat dude!”
Cricket fans also headed to Twitter to congratulate Ben on his magnificent achievements in the Cricket World Cup final.
A Twitter user suggested: “Ben Stokes should never have to buy a pint in England ever again.”
A second wrote: “England win the World Cup. Absolutely incredible!!! Wow. Give Ben Stokes a knighthood.”
A third added: “One Man Army! What a game! Ben Stokes, flat out, but unbeaten.”
