Ben Goldsmith reveals ‘devastation’ and ‘desperation’ after 15-year-old daughter’s tragic quad bike death
BEN Goldsmith has revealed his anguish after his 15-year-old daughter died this week in a quad bike accident.
Iris Annabel died at her family’s farm in Somerset on Monday after ambulance crews raced to their home in the village of North Brewham.
The millionaire financier said his “superstar” wanted to be a barrister when she grew up as he begged to have her back.
He told the Daily Mail: “I just can’t get my head round the enormity of what’s happened — it’s just so unfair. I’m feeling desperate, like I can’t breathe most of the time.
“She was only 15. I just want my beautiful, brilliant little girl back so much.
“She was a real star in the making and I am so proud of her. She was an academic superstar and was going to be a huge success. She wanted to be a barrister. No child has ever worked harder.”
Iris was reportedly riding with a friend in a “ranger vehicle” – an off-road buggy with a roll cage likened to a cross between a quadbike and a Jeep – when the crash unfolded at her dad’s farm.
‘PLEASE BRING HER BACK’
The schoolgirl had just finished her GCSEs, and had been marked as a top pupil nationally in academic results.
Dad Ben had reportedly been at a cricket game at Charterhouse School in Godalming, Surrey, when he received the call Iris had been hurt.
He then rushed off, with a team member saying they had not realised how serious the collision had been.
Rhiannon Wilkinson, head of the £40,000-a-year Wycombe Abbey School, in Bucks, where Iris was a pupil, yesterday said she was “sparky, inquisitive and sunny”.
The dad, who is the brother to Tory MP Zac Goldsmith, shared a heartbreaking message on Twitter yesterday begging God to bring her back.
The heart-wrenching message posted on Twitter read: “Dear God, please can I have my beautiful, brilliant, kind little girl back, please God.
“And if not, please take extra special care of her.
“I love her so so much and I’m so proud of her. It hurts me so much I can’t describe.”
He shared a photo of his daughter in a yellow jumper smiling at the camera.
Iris was the heiress to two of Britain’s most powerful dynasties – the Goldsmith and Rothschild families.
She was the first child of Ben and his ex-wife Kate Emma Rothschild, who are believed to have a joint fortune of more than £300million.
The two families are worth billions of pounds.
An inquest is expected to be opened soon.
Ben, 38, and Kate, 37, have two other children: Frank, 13 and Isaac, 11.
The pair separated in 2012 and Kate started a romance with US rapper Jay Electronica.
She is now in a relationship with entrepreneur Paul Forkan.
Ben remarried catering company boss Jemima Jones two years later and they now have two young children – Eliza and Arlo.
He is the youngest child of billionaire tycoon Sir James Goldsmith and Lady Annabel Vane-Tempest.
Ben’s older brother is the Tory MP for Richmond and North Kingston.
